"I wanted to learn about agronomy sales from the best of the best, so I chose to intern with Landus Cooperative." -Kate Collins, 2019 Agronomy Sales Intern, Landus Cooperative

Kate Collins is a Junior majoring in Agricultural Business and International Agriculture with a minor in Agronomy at Iowa State University. She spent this summer with Landus Cooperative as an Agronomy Sales Intern at the Boone, Perry, Woodward, and Collins locations. Her daily duties were dependent on the weather and growing stage of the crops. During the first part of her internship she took stand counts, scouted fields, as well as delivered seed and chemical to customers. Throughout the summer she continued to scout fields and shadow her field sales agronomists.

Kate grew up on a family farm outside of Adel, Iowa where they operate a cow/calf and diversified row crop operation. Her passion for agriculture began as soon as she was able to sit up on the four wheeler and help her dad with chores. Kate supports agriculture in her local and collegiate community. This summer Kate was crowned the 2019 Dallas County Fair Queen. Kate is also involved in agricultural organizations at Iowa State University. She is a member of Sigma Alpha, an agricultural sorority and is the co-reporter for the Agricultural Business Club.

Her favorite part of her internship experience this summer was working with the knowledgeable staff at Landus Cooperative. Kate noted, "Getting to work with four different agronomists helped me learn different aspects and techniques of agronomy sales."

Another unique element of a Landus Cooperative internship is a summer project. Landus Cooperative's interns are challenged to solve real business issues and find realistic, profitable solutions. Kate was a member of the Employee Application team where her and her team took first place in the project presentation contest. The team was able to streamline a communication process to report harvest hours to customers by creating a mobile app that will go live this harvest.

Kate says, "No matter what part of the industry you want to go into, an internship with Landus Cooperative can help you get there!"
