DES MOINES, IA (May 16, 2023) – Landus, the largest farmer-owned cooperative in Iowa, will increase its footprint in northeast Iowa by purchasing the assets of Snittjer Grain Company. Through a signed letter of intent, Landus will take ownership as of September 1, 2023. With two locations in Wellsburg, IA, and Conrad, IA, and 11 employees, Snittjer is a family-owned and operated grain merchandising and elevator company.

“Snittjer is a well-run company with deep roots in the communities they serve. Landus has worked closely with the Snittjer team over the past two years through our Optimization model, and through our ongoing collaboration we have developed deep respect for their team and the communities they serve. Snittjer’s assets are in ideal locations for our sustainable growth plans at Landus as we continue to expand. We welcome Snittjer employees to the Landus team and are eager to work alongside them to continue to put local farmers at the center of everything we do,” said Matt Carstens, president and CEO, Landus.

Snittjer employees will join the more than 600 Landus employees who serve 7,000 farmers across the Midwest with grain, agronomy, animal nutrition and data programs. Landus operates through 60+ locations in the United States and Mexico and is the only Iowa agricultural retailer with access to seven railroads.

“We’ve worked with Landus in various capacities over the last few years and appreciate their partnership approach,” said J.R. Kennedy, general manager, Snittjer Grain Co. “On behalf of both Pat Kennedy and me, as leaders we’re proud to say this opportunity is possible because Snittjer is financially sound and because of our strong team who will blend well with Landus. We are excited to join the Landus family and continue to serve our customers at the level they’ve come to expect, now with the full scope of Landus’ wide breadth of products and services.”
