No one was injured when a portion of the concrete bin fell early Tuesday morning
March 1, 2022 (Yetter, Iowa) – Early Tuesday morning structural failure resulted in damage to a concrete grain silo at the Landus facility in Yetter, Iowa. No one was injured as a result of this incident. Crews are on-site working to clean up fallen debris and anticipate all railway blockages to be cleared by evening.
As a result of the structural failure to the northwest-facing bin at the Yetter grain elevator, a large portion of the concrete wall fell to the ground while a train was being loaded on site around 4:30 am. No one was injured. There was no fire risk, and no first responders were needed.
Large pieces of concrete debris and corn have temporarily obstructed rail traffic on the CN Rail line at the location and road traffic on Durant Ave, which runs north to south through the Landus site. Crews are currently on site cleaning up and Landus anticipates rail traffic will be able to resume by evening. Upon initial assessment there was no damage to railcars or rail track.
Only one of three grain receiving pits was impacted by the damage to this bin. The Yetter team is preparing the site to be ready to receive customer grain again tomorrow morning, and the site will be deemed safe for customer traffic.
