Rural Matters: Agricultural Policy Survey Results

The strong response reflects this importance of policy issues to our membership and the value you place on having your perspectives heard. We are sharing the survey results with members and will use them to inform our discussions with state and national policy makers.
In response to the question “Should eminent domain be used to build a private CO2 pipeline?”, members responded as follows:
These results indicate a range of views among members, with many expressing concerns related to private property rights. This topic also sparked significant discussion at in-person meetings.
Responses reflected varied perspectives, with many members indicating that taxes on ag land are already high, and that tax reform should consider impacts across multiple sectors. Comments referenced the importance of funding for local priorities such as public schools and aging infrastructure, including roads, bridges and broadband.
When asked where tax reductions should occur, 50% felt reductions should come at the state level while maintaining local decision-making authority over local spending.
The first funnel deadline for the Iowa legislature was February 20. Now the Iowa Legislature will focus on the bills that have passed through the subcommittee and committee. Property Tax Reform and the CO2 pipeline legislation remain active topics under consideration. The member survey results will help inform Landus’ conversations as we visit with legislators.
At the federal level, members emphasized the importance of completing a Farm Bill, particularly in light of commodity prices and crop insurance support programs.
Members also highlighted the importance of biofuels policy, including year-round E15 availability.
Additionally, 94% of respondents indicated that tariffs have had a harmful effect on input costs and/or sales of farm products.
Landus will share member perspective on these topics with Iowa’s Congressional delegation as discussions continue in Washington.
Thank you to those who participated in the survey. Your feedback gives us valuable direction as we engage with policymakers and agricultural associations on behalf of our membership. We encourage continued participation in future surveys and welcome direct outreach if you have questions or perspectives to share.
